Transforming...

So I truly contemplated whether or not to show this photo, but I decided to brave it, in hopes that it might inspire or give encouragement to someone else.

^^^Photo on the right was taken somewhere around two months ago/photo on the right was taken today.^^^

I am now nine months postpartum and finally starting to feel like my self again.  Before getting pregnant I never really had the fears of gaining weight or being able to lose the baby weight.  My mom always looked fantastic after each baby and thought I would be no different.  After only a few months into my pregnancy I soon realized, I wouldn't be so lucky.  I instantly put on a ton of water weight.  This in turn made my feet swell and didn't allow me to be on me feet, longer than five minutes at a time.  Working out was impossible.  Just walking around the grocery store caused my body to ache.
My back gave out on me which added many trips to the chiropractor.  I quickly felt my body change from one extreme to the next.  I went from being an avid cyclist/dancer to being a couch potato with my feet being elevated, any chance I could get.  Oh how I craved to work out, yet alone be able to put my feet into a sneaker.  Did I mention my feet grew three sizes.  It was impossible to keep up with my ever growing body.  There wasn't much I could do about it, so I did what I could to stay positive.  I had a healthy baby growing inside my body and there wasn't anything that was more important to me than that.

If I remember correctly I gained around 50 pounds.  For a 5'5" frame that was a lot to handle.  Everyone kept telling me it was the water weight and that after I had the baby, it would all fall off of me.  I held onto that hope with every fiber of my being.  People were correct, the water weight fell right off.  I instantly dropped 20 pounds, within a week or so.  I thought things were going amazingly smooth and waited for my body to do the rest.

Well things didn't go as planned.  I went almost a year without working out and finding the motivation to get back into the swing of things, about did me in.  I still remember taking Penelope out for our first walk and only being able to go a few blocks.  I had to turn around.  Each day I was able to go a little further. That was until Penelope contracted RSV.  I didn't want to take Penelope to the day care at the gym, in fear she would get sick again.  This was the beginning of my plateau.

As time went on we learned that Penelope was going to need open heart surgery.  I don't think I realized it at the time, but I was a mess.  I would use food as my comfort.  Chocolate and ice cream made our situation seem easier.  My heart ached and I didn't know how to fix things for my baby.  I was so scared I was going to lose her.  Every night I would be in tears, wondering what I would do with my life, if I lost her.  I was stressed and anxious all at the same time.

Penelope's surgery went perfectly and better than we could have ever imaged.  I could instantly feel the weight on my shoulders being lifted off, immediately after having her come out of surgery.  My baby was going to be okay.  I knew it was only up hill from there.  Once our family over came that trial it was time to focus on getting back to me.  I decided there was no better way than to start teaching Zumba again.  I got re-certified and I was on my way to transforming myself.

I wasn't able to fit into any of my old work out clothes.  I was embarrassed, but didn't want to spend any more money on larger clothes.  I pulled them on and went on my way. I still remember looking in the mirror at myself at the Zumba certification and thinking to myself, that is not me.  I felt so uncomfortable in my new skin.  I knew things needed to change.

As soon as I was certified I started subbing Zumba.  If I wasn't subbing I had a hard time going to the gym.  There weren't any classes that I was dying to try, so I decided to take up walking/running.  It was time to put the BOB into use.  Each morning I would load Penelope into her stroller and attach GiGi to my side.  We started out at a mile and worked our way up to three.

I signed my family up for a 5k Memorial Day run and wanted to make sure I wasn't going to pass out before crossing the finish line.  My mom and I ran side by side to the finish.  It felt so good being able to run the entire way without walking.

As time went on I really started to enjoy running.  I would put on my music and be on my way.  I started enjoying the scenery around me and loving were I lived.  The only problem was I wasn't loosing any weight.  I felt like I was working hard, but wasn't seeing any results.  Tyson was wonderful to listen to my complaints.  He told me to keep on working and things would happen.  There were so many times I just wanted to throw in the towel.  I started to accept that this was going to be my new body and I better start getting used to it.

That was when I was offered to have my own Zumba class.  I started teaching two times a week and shortly after was asked to teach another class.  I was thrilled.  The weight finally started to go down, however I knew that just doing Zumba wasn't going to be enough.  I was going to have to change the way I eat.  This was a huge for me.  I used to be able to eat whatever I wanted so changing that was work.  I started buying fresh produce, greek yogurt bars, protein bars, and Lean Cuisines.  Between the two the results started to show.

I started being able to fit into my old jeans and dresses.  I felt like I had an entirely new wardrobe.  My goal was to be able to wear a bikini by our Newport Vacation.  I got down to my goal weight and wore that bikini of mine.  I didn't want to stop there though.  I wanted to get back to my pre-pre pregnancy weight and size.  (When I say pre-pre pregnancy size I mean before my first miscarriage.  I never lost the original weight from my first pregnancy before I got pregnant with Penelope).

With hard work and patience I was able to meet my goal.  A couple days ago I got onto the scale and saw the magical numbers I had been wanting for so long.  For shoots and giggles I decided to try on my old pants.  It was a miracle, they fit.  I kicked myself in the butt, for giving away all my old pants.  I called my mom and Tyson to tell them the news.  I couldn't wipe the smile off my face.

There is still work to be done and realize my body will most likely never be entirely back to its old self, but I am okay with that.  I loved carrying a baby inside of me and wouldn't change it for the world.  I am grateful for what this journey has taught me.  Things don't always go our way or in our time frame, but if we hold on, things will work out.  Patience makes us appreciate things more fully.  I am grateful every day for my body and hope to never take it for granted.

I'm So Glad When Daddy Comes Home

As five o'clock rolls around, we all get a little anxious.  We know that Tyson is only moments away, from pulling into the garage.  Immediately after hearing the garage door rise, Gigi prances to the door and eagerly awaits for Tyson to walk through the door.  Her tail doesn't stop wagging, as she squeals with excitement.  Penelope hears his voice and instantaneously smiles from ear to ear.  It's like our house turns four shades brighter, with him inside.

Tyson always makes sure to give me a smooch, as soon as he gets home.  I am usually moments away from losing it, but as soon as I see that grin, I instantly feel relief.  He makes everything better.  He picks Penelope up and squeezes her tight to him.  Oh how I love to see the two of them together.

Having that handsome man of mine walk through the door every day, never gets old.  I am so grateful for all he does for our family.  He works day in and day out and never once complains.  He goes about life with a smile on his face and a positive attitude.  He helps me turn any negative situation into a positive one, doing so without even trying.  I admire the man that he is and adore the way he takes care of our daughter.  He blesses our lives in more ways than I can count, giving all that he has, 100% of the time.

My cup runneth over!

Cookies & Cream Cookies

Our friends Curtis and Kim and their darling triples, came by one night and brought with them the most delectable cookies.  It was so nice to try something new.  These cookies taste like an Oreo cookie and a chocolate chip cookie made a baby.  The are the perfect combination of soft and chewy.  Really, you can't go wrong with anything that has a touch of Oreo goodness.  We had to ban these cookies from our house because Tyson and I didn't know where to stop.  Luckily there is a Relief Society social tonight, so they were able to sneak back into our house for a moments time.

Cookies & Cream Cookie Recipe

1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar

Birthday Shenanigans

Another year has come and gone.  I am now the big 28!  Yikes, in just two short years I will be in my 30's.  I still feel so young though.  I wonder if I will feel this way when I am in my 70's.  My birthday fell on a Sunday this year, which made for a weekend of celebrations.

Friday afternoon kicked off the fun.  My girlfriends and I went and ate at my favorite restaurant Sakanaya.  Fried rice, shrimp, veggies, and hot and spicy sauce never get old.  Each girl spoiled me rotten.  I left our little luncheon feeling so loved and blessed to have such wonderful people in my life.

That night Tyson surprised me with a salmon dinner.  This was huge in my eyes.  Tyson strongly dislikes fish, but did it because he knew how much it would mean to me.  I rarely get fish, so when I do, I feel pretty special.  He cooked the fish perfectly.  Tahoe Joe's cheesecake followed dinner.  I have a slight obsession with their cheesecake.  The crust is half the size of the filling, which in my eyes, is the best part.

Saturday evening I went to dinner and a movie with my sister-in-laws.  The Way Way Out, is a must see movie.  Really any movie with Steve Carell is a hit in my book.

Tyson's mom made me a delicious dinner(black and bleu chicken, rice pilaf, corn on the cob, salad, and bread)on Sunday night.  Some family and friends came over afterwards to celebrate.  When it came time to blow out my candle, I became stumped.  For the first time in my life, I honestly couldn't think of anything to wish for.  I already had everything I ever wanted.  I remember all those year wishing for a husband.  I have Tyson!  Then I remember wishing for a baby.  Then I got Penelope!  Then I wished for a healthy baby.  Penelope is healthy!  I have everything I could have ever dreamed of.  We did a redo so that I could think of something..... and that I did.  I can't tell though, because wishes don't come true if you tell them.

Birthdays for me get better and better every year.  Social media also doesn't help.  Thank you to everyone who made my day/weekend so perfect.  I honestly couldn't ask for better friends and family.

Nine Months

Dear Penelope,

In three short months you will be a year old.  Everyday I watch a little piece of my baby slip away.  It is heartbreaking but oh so wonderful at the same time.  Your personality is really starting to shine through.  You crack us up every day.  You have your dads sweet, loving, easy going personality, but have a touch of your mama's feisty personality.  You are sure to let us know when you want something.  The second I put you in your highchair, you start screaming for your food.  I can't get the food to you quick enough.  If I let you, you would eat the entire package of yogurt melts.  I guess you are like your mama and have a true love for food.

You are currently fascinated with tissue or napkins, my phone, water bottles, GiGi's toys, wash clothes, and necklaces.  You primarily want anything you are not supposed to have.  I have to watch you with your books, because you like to eat them.  You have mastered drinking out of cup and gulping your baby good out of the packet.

We finally pulled the plug and have you sleeping through the night.  I don't know if it was harder for you or me.  There was a part of me that really enjoyed those quite hours of the night, where it was just you and me.  You would nuzzle into me and make me feel like the most important person in the world. You take one short nap in the morning and one long nap in the afternoon.  You still bless your papa and I with going to bed at 7 o'clock.

You are rolling all over the place.  The carpet is your playground.  You are not crawling, just yet, but have your own form of transportation.  You will arch your back and thrust your hips up and down to get where you want to go.  It is hilarious to watch.  If you keep this up, you might have no more hair left on the back of your head.

You are mumbling the words mama, papa, and hi.  I love hearing your sweet voice.  It melts my mama bear heart.  What kills me even more, is listening to you laugh.  It still amazes me, the things you find funny.  I will do something not meaning to make you laugh and you find it hilarious.

Gigi is still your favorite.  I am so happy you two get along.  She easily distracts you from eating.  You have no fear of dogs, which is a great relief.  You will go to anyone, but have started to reach.  I find this delectable.  It makes me giddy every time you lean in for me.

I cherish the relationship you and I have.  We have a groove going on, that is like butter.  You get me and I get you.  You light up the room and make everyone grin from ear to ear.  Your newest snaggle tooth is too cute, for words.  I love seeing you smile and getting a glimpse of those pearly whites and watching your eyes squint just like your grandpa Brown's did.

We fall more and more in love with you every day.  I seriously squish you and kiss you all day.  Your kisses are the best.  You are our everything.  I don't know how we got so lucky!

Love,
Mama and Papa
